AfterShock Comics have announced a second volume of the comedy thriller “Chicken Devil,” titled, “Chicken Devils.” Writer Brian Buccellato and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou will return, while artist/colorist Mattia Monaco (“Knock ‘Em Dead”) will take over from Hayden Sherman (who continues to provide main covers for the series.) The comic will continue the adventures of fast food chain owner-turned-vigilante Mitchell Moss, who’s now working with Detectives Conway and Taylor after his war on the Russian mafia went south last time.

“See Mitchell Moss thrust in the middle of a new gang war!,” teases the synopsis. “Watch Mitch battle his family as they actively thwart his efforts to keep them safe! And let out an exasperated SIGH alongside Mitch as he is forced into teaming up with the kill-crazy bad cops!” Buccellato also promises the new volume will explore a lot more on Mitch’s relationship with his wife Denise and daughter Hanna, “since they were presumed dead for most of the first volume.”

“Chicken Devil Vol 2: Chicken Devils” #1 will be released with an incentive cover by Francis Manapul on October 12, and retail at 32 pages for $4.99. In the meantime, you can check out an unlettered preview, and a full Q&A with Buccellato, below:

BRIAN BUCCELLATO ON WHAT THE OVERALL STORY ABOUT AND HOW THIS SECOND ARC PLAYS INTO IT:

“A darkly comedic revenge story the tone of TV shows like Barry or Fargo, CHICKEN DEVIL puts an edgy spin on vengeful antiheroes like The Punisher and John Wick. It’s the story of a mild-mannered family man and restauranteur who breaks bad when the Russian mob murders his family. With nothing to lose, he embarks on a bloody path of revenge. There’s only one problem – he’s not equipped to be a badass. He’s not ex-military or special ops. His only unique set of skills? He makes really good chicken. So how does a regular guy even get into the murdery revenge game? Well, if you read the first volume, he did it with determination, a lot of luck, and mostly by failing upwards.”

BRIAN BUCCELLATO ON WHICH CHARACTERS FROM VOLUME ONE WE WILL SEE IN VOLUME 2:

“Everybody who survived volume one is in the second. But this time around we’ll focus more on Mitch’s family. We’ll highlight his relationship with his wife Denise and daughter Hanna. We also prominently feature Conway and Taylor, the two detectives who lent Mitch a hand at the end of issue four.”

BRIAN BUCCELLATO ON WHAT SOME OF THE INSPIRATIONS WERE BEHIND WRITING THIS SEQUEL:

“Well, I wrote the first volume with a cliffhangery ending that left the door open for a sequel. SPOILER for those who haven’t read the first volume – After Mitch’s attempt to take out the Russian mob fails miserably, he gets bailed out by the two detectives, who end the first series with a LOT of blood on their hands. So, it seemed like a no-brainer to explore where Mitch and the cops go from there. I also wanted a chance to explore Mitch’s family relationships, since they were presumed dead for most of the first volume.”

BRIAN BUCCELLATO WHAT HE HOPES NEW READERS, AND EXISTING FANS OF THE SERIES, WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THIS STORY:

“Takeaway? A good time, some laughs, and a blueprint for how NOT to go on a kill-crazy rampage of revenge.”
