(April 14, 2015) Los Angeles, CA – Imagine the ultimate comic book company for both fans and creators alike. That company launches today.
AfterShock is a hybrid comic book company combining the creative edge of an independent comic book publisher with the strengths and experience of a traditional powerhouse. The executive team includes recent Marvel Executive Editor Mike Marts, who spearheaded the development of some of DC and Marvel Comics’ most popular and profitable franchises (Batman, X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy), as well as Eisner Award-winning publisher and editor Joe Pruett and other leaders in the media and entertainment industry.
“AfterShock is paving the way for the next evolutionary step in comic books,” said Editor-in-Chief Mike Marts. “Being part of this great team allows us to further foster relationships with not only the current generation of creators and writers, but also the next one.”
The comic book business continues to thrive and evolve, and over the last decade many of the highest-grossing films in pop culture history have come from comics. AfterShock offers a new home for top creators and artists to publish their own stories, as well as develop stories with our experienced team.
“Our entire team posses the highest level of experience within their respective fields,” said Chief Creative Office Joe Pruett. “With the addition of Mike Marts, and his unparalleled skill set and instincts on what makes a great comic book story, our team just got even stronger.”
In addition to Pruett and Marts, AfterShock was founded by: Co-CEO Michael Richter, an accomplished media and technology executive and award-winning filmmaker; CoCEO Jon Kramer, an entertainment entrepreneur with extensive worldwide production and distribution experience; President Lee Kramer, a film production and development executive who has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood; and Senior VP of Investor Relations Jawad Qureshi, an experienced Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor. Richter, who is currently serving as a board member, will join Jon Kramer as Co-CEO this summer.
AfterShock Comics plans to start by publishing creator-driven comics from the industry’s top writers and artists. Over time, AfterShock intends to explore building a shared universe of characters and stories.
